Once children enter their teens, sometimes there develops a potential communication gap

between them and their parents. It can be extremely difficult to find common ground for any

deep and meaningful conversation. It is during these years that you can almost sense your

children drifting away from you. They may choose to never confide in you during this phase.

Children go through different phases but adolescence is probably the toughest of them all.

During this stage their curiosity level is heightened and their secrecy level begins to

develop. They start to experiment with everything that attracts their attention. It can be a

scary phase for parents and requires their full attention.


What exactly do some teens fear telling their parents?

Many teens, due to peer pressure or curiosity will experiment with ual activity. If they

are smart, they will make wise choices, such as limit their exploration. If they do become

sexually active then, if they are smart, they will use protection against pregnancy and

disease. They will almost never confide in their parents about their life. It is a big

No. They fear the disappointment of their parents and having to listen to their advice.

Another famous secret among teenaged s is abortion. Many teens who fall pregnant do not

want their parents to find out schedule and abortion. They keep this a secret since they


fear that their parents will not understand.

A lot of teenagers cannot handle peer pressure and are easily influenced by their friends. A

common problem among teenagers is the use of . Almost all of them know that what they

are doing is wrong and will not be approved by their parents. So they use but try and

keep their parents in the dark.

Drinking is also another problem that teens succumb to. The law requires you to be 18-21

before you drink but most teenagers start drinking much early on. They hide this from their

parents because they know what they are doing is illegal and again won't be approved.
