Now top 175,395th
I can’t believe its March already! Doesn’t the time go so fast when you are having fun.
Checking in with Alexa we are now the top 175,395th website in the US.
It just goes to show that we are really getting there now, our aim for the next couple of months is to get into the top 100,000 that is apparently a critical mass point for websites.
If you want to support us – please mention us on your website and blog, with a link back if you can – that will help bring us traffic and links count as votes on the Search Engines – which we really need at the moment.

Compete shows babiesbase growing rapidly
As confirmed by our own statistics from Google Analytics we are seeing traffic really take off, we have gone from a standing start to several thousand visitors in the space of only a few weeks. Check out the following graph from Compete.com a well known web traffic comparison site.
This upward trend is set to continue in February as we are getting a lot more signups on the forum and I have started to notice that babiesbase is appearing regularly in the blogosphere a sure sign that traffic is moving in an upwards direction.

Forum really kicking
We are really impressed with progress on the forum, in only a few weeks of being live we already have over 600 posts within 142 topics from 152 members!
That’s some going!
The exciting thing is that we are only just starting up our marketing! We hope that things will really get going in March when we start to upp our marketing.
If you want to help, join our forum and link back to us from your website or blogs.
Categories

Our category section is growing rapidly we now have nearly 7,500 tag type sections, the great aspect of this feature is that it allows similar content to be organized together.
Basically it works by performing a search of Yahoo, who helpfully respond back with the top 19 tags that correspond to each page submitted. Once collected the tags are organised together and displayed on the left hand side of every article page.
The only downside is that it takes a fair amount of resource to perform each lookup and the total is limited to 5,000 per day, far more than we currently have new submitted every day! But an issue if we import several 1,000 from potential partner sites.
Our statistics show that a lot of visitors are using this and finding more articles to read rather than leaving our site, so its working!
More features like this will be coming to Babiesbase soon, but at the moment we are focussed on traffic development. If you have any ideas or suggestions then join our forum and let us know!

Your pregnancy questions answered
At the end of last year we signed a partnership deal with Yedda the popular questions and answers service. This is a really great feature on babiesbase which is only now starting to catch on with our users.

Ask any question related to an article on babiesbase and the service will get an answer to your questions. Questions are now coming but we think users are missing this great feature.

Using a pendulum to check the sex of your baby
My mum swore that this works – it did for my two children, but could just have been chance.
Hang a pendant over your right wrist, or any small weighted item attached to a string. If it moves in a circular motion, a girl is on her way; if it swings back and forth its a boy.
Apparently it also works over the tummy.
It might also work by auto suggestion – with your subconscious mind influencing it one way or the other – not sure if that helps – unless you know the sex already?

Mumnesia
Does pregnancy affect a woman’s memory? A recent study in Canberra Australia claimed that it did not, but I am not sure, my own experience is that it did. But it could be that its lack of sleep that causes the problem and not the pregnancy hormones.
My husbands memory is affected when he drinks – so maybe the extra hormones flowing around combined with sleep issues are the real reason.
I think it does but that’s just a personal perspective.

Alexa for Feb 2010
Alexa the popular web statistics package clearly shows the exciting progress we are making – already we are in the top 321,000 websites in the World!
A downside with Alexa is that it uses information from the users who have installed it on their desktop, as Alexa is not all that well known their sample is limited, but with the aid of statistics they can turn their sample of data into something resembling the real world.
Our promotional work seems really to be paying off faster than we dared hoped. Anyways this site is all about getting information to those looking for it and we guess that pregnancy is a topic that people are very serious about and finding out about.
